Since 1980, the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem has been in the forefront of youth development, working with young people who need us the most regardless of economic, social and family circumstances. The Boys & Girls Club of Harlem provides a tangible measure of hope. The Club offers young people what they need and want most: adults who respect and listen to them; a safe environment where they can have fun and be themselves; and interesting, constructive activities that channel youthful energy into challenging pursuits.

The Boys & Girls Club of Harlem is part of a nationwide affiliation of local autonomous organizations working to help young people of all backgrounds develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders. We have four sites in Congressional District #15 serving youth, without regard to race, gender, color, national origin, religion, or socio-economic background. The Boys & Girls Club of Harlem provides after-school, school vacation, holiday and summer programming to children and youth ages 6 to 18. We offer a broad range of programs in five core areas:

· Character and Leadership Development

· Education and Career Development

· Health and Life Skills

· The Arts

· Sports, Fitness and Recreation

Our board of directors, staff and volunteers include individuals who participated in the Club’s programming as children, and whose children now participate. In January 2009, The Boys & Girls Club of Harlem named Gisele C. Shorter, Executive Director. Ms. Shorter oversees all four locations throughout the village of Harlem, and is committed to making the Clubs a magnet for children throughout the community. Gisele was born, raised and currently lives in Harlem and is deeply committed to fulfilling the core promises of the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem to provide access and opportunities for youth to reach their full potential as responsible members of the community.

The Boys & Girls Club of Harlem believes every child has the potential to BE GREAT. In support of this strong conviction, our Club strives to build caring, responsible citizens.
The Boys & Girls Club of Harlem – a community of staff, volunteers, parents, youth and supporters – works together to create a positive place, full of hope and opportunity, for every child. We invite you to join us in helping the youth of Harlem Be Great.
